Christina's Story

Five years ago, Christina’s life couldn’t have been more different. She credits her life transformation to her own inspiring grit and determination and also to the support she received from The Salvation Army Bridge and Supportive Accommodation services.

“I decided that I needed to get help or I would end up in jail or dead.

That help came in the form of The Salvation Army’s Epsom Lodge, which provides 12 weeks of emergency and transitional housing, supported by a raft of counselling and wrap-around services - along with the Bridge, one of New Zealand’s most well-recognised and effective support services for reducing the harm of alcohol and other drugs.

She now has a job, a car and is studying for a Mental Health and Addiction qualification.

“In the past year, my life has done a complete turnaround. I have so much more freedom and self-love now.

Christina is now a Support Worker for The Salvation Army and says that people she helps and inspires each day, also inspire her.
